Audain Art Museum

Audain Art Museum in Whistler British Columbia

Located in the heart of Whistler, the Audain Art Museum is a cultural landmark known for its striking architecture and exceptional exhibitions. Surrounded by forest and mountain views, the museum offers a thoughtful space to explore Canadian art, from Indigenous works to contemporary masterpieces.

Edward Burtynsky’s exhibition The Coast Mountains presents a powerful body of recent large-format photographs capturing British Columbia’s alpine landscapes. Burtynsky brings global perspective to local terrain. His images reveal pristine valleys, rugged glaciers, and the dramatic effects of climate change. Patterned ice, sweeping ridges, and melting glacier details reflect his lifelong documentation of environmental forces.

The exhibition at Audain Art Museum runs through September 15, 2025. Visitors encounter over thirty striking photographs on display. Each invites pause and reflection. Through scale and clarity, the photographs transport viewers deep into remote wilderness and invite contemplation on humanity’s impact and nature’s resilience.

The Audain Art Museum has a permanent collection of British Columbia art complements Burtynsky’s work. It houses masterworks by Emily Carr, Haida masks, and modernist icons like E.J. Hughes and Gordon Smith. Together, they create a layered dialogue about land, identity, and artistic expression in BC.

Guests are welcome to take docent-led guided tours, attend artist talks, and explore interactive discussion sessions. These add context to Burtynsky’s environmental vision and Canada’s artistic legacy.

Edward Burtynsky’s The Coast Mountains exhibition offers more than images. It prompts reflection about ecological change, human industry, and the fragile beauty of the Canadian landscape. Through bold photography and immersive display, it becomes a journey into the heart of BC’s rugged yet vulnerable wilderness.

With humility and deep respect, we acknowledge that we live and work within the present-day territories of Treaty 6, 7 and 8, as well as the Métis Homeland. The lands and waters of Banff National Park have been used for millennia by Indigenous Peoples for sustenance, ceremony, trade and travel. We thank them for their continued stewardship and for sharing this land.

We pay respect to all Indigenous peoples who have marked these lands for centuries as we continue to walk forward, together.
